The last year has been tough for all of us. In spite of all the challenges, there have also been joyful moments and precious milestones for so many families. Thomas and Mallory welcomed their sweet baby boy to their lives this year among all of the chaos and craziness. I had the privilege of celebrating his arrival with them and capturing his in-home newborn lifestyle session in their light and bright home in Columbia, SC.
In-Home Newborn Session in Columbia, SC
During their session, Mallory wanted the focus of their session to be what it was like with a new baby in the middle of a pandemic, especially the comfort of home and the feeling of togetherness! Mallory and Thomas also have two sweet dogs, Dixie and Luna, and we wanted to be sure to include them in some of their photos. Dixie was Mallory’s dog before she met Thomas, and she has a bed in the nursery; Mallory told me that she’ll come in and sit with her at night when she’s up nursing the baby. One of my favorite moments during the session was when Dixie came in to sit protectively at Mallory’s feet while she was comforting the baby during a fussy moment. I can already tell that she and the little guy are going to be the best of friends!
A Gender-Neutral Nursery with a Nautical Theme
I also wanted to be sure to document all the details of baby’s gorgeous, nautical-themed nursery! Because of COVID, Thomas wasn’t able to attend any prenatal appointments with Mallory, so they decided to find out the baby’s sex but keep it just between them until after the baby was born. Mallory put so much thought and careful detail into their stunning gender-neutral nursery. Their theme was based around a blue, coral, and yellow color palette, which was inspired by this swaddle from Copper Pearl. I especially loved the detail of the white wainscoting underneath the deep blue walls—they really made the room pop! One of my favorite decorative details was the custom watercolor paintings from a local Columbia artist, Shirl D Art, as well as the sailboat model! The space was so soothing and calming, which was exactly what Mallory was trying to create.
Mallory and Thomas, thank you so much for inviting me to capture these sweet moments with your baby boy. You have a beautiful home, but even more than that, it’s obvious that it’s filled with love! I’m excited to watch your little one grow—big hugs to the three of you! 💙
