When I originally chatted with Katherine about scheduling portraits for her new baby boy, she wanted to do a Fresh 48 session at the hospital to document when her older sons met their younger brother. As with many things in the last year, COVID-19 had other plans for this sweet family. Because of the pandemic, visitors were not allowed at the hospital! So our plans for a Fresh 48 had to wait until they could go home. I met them there to capture the brothers meeting their new baby brother for the first time. It was absolutely precious (see it here!)! We decided that another lifestyle session would be in order later for the family when the baby was a bit older too. As they settled into life at home, we got ready to plan their in-home lifestyle session to capture life as a family of five.
Then another curveball was thrown at Katherine and her family. Their little warrior had to undergo major surgery at just a few months old to un-fuse some plates in his skull. Once we found out about his surgery, we decided a 6 month milestone lifestyle session would be perfect to celebrate. It turned out to be a wonderful time for a session with his little guy! He’s grown a lot in the last 6 months and I loved catching up with him and his sweet family.
Columbia In-Home Lifestyle Session
Before her session, I talked with Katherine again about what mattered most to her in this session. She wanted to be sure that we captured the big boys in their room – and their bond at this age. They often spend hours sitting together in their room and chatting across their beds. Not to mention, their incredible imaginations at this age. They’re such big brothers too and it was important to capture the connection all of her sons have. Everyone made it so easy for me – just enjoying the time to play and be together. The boys definitely loved showing off their baby brother, too!
Their littlest guy is curious and was definitely interested in everything his big brothers were doing. His eyes were always so wide as he followed them around the room, seeing what they were up to. I loved watching him with his parents. But perhaps my favorite moment of the entire session was watching his brother climb into the crib with him to read a book. Since day one, those two have had a super special bond and I loved being able to see how it’s grown in the last 6 months. I also adored the fact that they had portraits from their Fresh 48 session hanging on the wall in the nursery! It made every moment of this in-home family session even more special.
Katherine and Daniel, it was such a joy to see your sweet family again and to capture more of this sweet season of life for you! I know this year has brought many challenges, but I admire your strength and resilience in meeting each one as it comes. You have a beautiful family, and I love seeing the friendships that your boys are building with each other. I can’t wait to see them grow in their brotherly love in the years to come. Big hugs to all five of you!
