Fresh 48 Newborn Session at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital | Columbia, SC Newborn Photographer

A sweet, spunky toddler walks hand-in-hand with her daddy, her snazzy new sneakers tap-tap-tapping as she makes her way down the brightly lit hospital corridor, her ponytail bobbing with each step. Her eyes shine with excitement, and she captures the attention of everyone she passes as she flashes her adorable grin at each one. As they turn the corner at the end of the hallway, her daddy points at the door ahead. “Are you ready to go see mommy?” Slowly, slowly, he pushes open the door and guides her through. She peeks around the curtain, and her gaze lands on the person she has been most eager to see. In a single moment, a dozen emotions flash across her face, all of them spilling out as she bursts into tears. “Oh, sweet girl, come here!” says her mommy in a soothing voice, and her daddy lifts her up to join her on the bed. The two sit cuddled together, her mommy snuggling her and showering her with reassuring kisses. After a few minutes, her mommy points to the bassinet at her bedside and says, “Are you ready to meet baby brother?” Her daddy lifts her up once again, and from her perch, she stares at the tiny bundle sleeping soundly below her. Her eyes shift back and forth as she sizes up this tiny person, wondering what to make of him. As I watch her take in all the details of this new baby, the magnitude of the moment hits me — after all the months of waiting, they are finally all together as a family of four: Mom. Dad. Daughter. Son.

When Mandy first contacted me about scheduling a newborn session, she was conflicted about whether she wanted to do a fresh 48 session in the hospital or a lifestyle session at home! After we talked about the differences between each of the sessions, I was so excited when she let me know that she and her husband Dom had decided on a hospital session so I could capture those sweet moments of their daughter meeting her baby brother for the first time! Those first days are always such a blur and filled with so much emotion, and I consider it a great honor to be invited to share (and capture!) those intimate moments with a family!

And let me tell you — Mandy was the picture of a radiant new mom the morning of our session! I felt such a sense of peace and calm when I entered their room. She and Dom made me feel so welcome, too! I felt like we had known each other for years — while I snapped photos of their sweet baby boy, we chatted easily about parenthood, our pregnancies, our birth experiences with our children, and our families. It is always so wonderful when clients feel like friends… I truly get to work with the best people!

Mandy and Dom — thank you again for inviting me to share this special time with you! You were both so warm and inviting, and you made me feel like part of the family! It was so apparent what a great team you two are, and I absolutely loved being able to document this special occasion! I can’t wait to watch your sweet little ones grow up together over the years… congratulations again, and big hugs to all FOUR of you!
