When I think about this family photo session at the USC Horseshoe, the first word that comes to mind is JOY! From start to finish, their session was filled with so much fun and happiness. There was lots of tickling, silly jokes, dancing, running—and so much love among this sweet family of five. The best part of family sessions, especially sessions with young children, is capturing the joy in the chaos, and it was such a pleasure to be able to do just that with this beautiful family!
Fall Family Session at the USC Horseshoe
Brianne is one of my sweet friends from my Converse days, and I still remember how excited we all were when she and Justin got engaged! Now, after 12 years of marriage, they’ve got three beautiful girls, each with their own distinct personality and interests.
As we were planning for their session, I especially loved Brianne’s attitude about how to approach their family photos with three young children! She and Justin most wanted me to capture the personalities of their three girls, as well as some photos where they all “looked like they liked each other!” Her eldest was super excited and full of ideas for our portraits. Her younger two girls really loved the chance to snuggle and be together, with her middle daughter helping whenever she could with her baby sister! It was so sweet. Chaotic at times—which is completely normal for sessions where we’ve got a few little ones—but overall, just so much fun!
The USC Horseshoe was also the perfect location for their session! It’s one of my favorite places for family sessions, not only because it is beautiful and historic, but it’s full of beautiful gardens and courtyards and little nooks that are beautiful for portraits! It’s also a place that Brianne and Justin enjoy visiting with their girls, and it’s always fun to incorporate a location here in Columbia that is special to a family for their pictures! They had plans to ride scooters there after our session as well, which gave the girls something special to look forward to!
Brianne and Josh—It was such an honor to be the one to capture your first professional photos of your sweet family of five! I loved getting to meet your sweet girls and to see how much they all love each other (and their wonderful parents). These sweet photos of your family bring me joy, and I hope you treasure them too for all the years to come. I’m so happy we had the chance to connect again this year, and I can’t wait until next time! Big hugs to all five of you!
