Home. A place of family and memories, comfort and safety, warmth and love. In the last year, home has taken on an entirely new meaning as we have grappled with the realities of life in a pandemic. Last spring, just as the world was retreating into quarantine for an unforeseen length of time, this family was welcoming their second daughter. Over the weeks and months that followed, they adjusted to life as a family of four, finding the rhythm of life with two littles with the added challenge of missing much of the planned support from friends and family. In spite of all the challenges, they leaned on each other and savored the extra time together that they might not have had otherwise, watching their daughters grow and change each day. Even though their two girls will not remember their year at home, they will hear the stories of this time, and I know that the common thread that will run through all of them will be togetherness.
In the last year, my in-home newborn sessions have taken on an even more special meaning as all my 2020 newborns (my own daughter included!) have spent almost their entire lives isolated from the outside world and unable to experience much of life beyond the walls of their home. When we were finally able to schedule Jessica and Jake’s newborn session, their precious baby girl had just turned three months old, and I loved being able to capture all her sweet smiles and her big, wide eyes taking in her little world!
Jessica’s hope for their session was for the girls to be able to look back on these photos and cherish their little faces and where they were as a young family in this season of life. During our session, I wanted to focus on moments that would serve as a reminder of the time they spent together in their first months as a family of four, reading and playing, growing and learning. Of course, I also had to highlight the big sister; I loved being able to capture some photos of just her that showed off her spunk and personality!
Jessica and Jake, thank you again so much for inviting me into your home to capture your sweet family! In spite of all the challenges of this last year, I hope that looking back at these photos reminds you of the sweet memories from the beginnings of your life as a family of four, and also shows just how much your girls have changed in the last year! Big hugs to all four of you!
