When I think of this session, I will always remember the laughter, joy, and love that this sweet family has for each other. I have loved getting to know Heather, Jim, and their girls through our church over the last several years, and I was thrilled when Heather reached out about scheduling a family session with me! This was their first time having photos taken as a family of four, which made it all the more special. I loved that they chose Spring Hill High School for their photos; it was the perfect way to commemorate their oldest daughter’s senior year!
Outdoor Family & High School Senior Session
It’s no secret that I’m a little obsessed with the morning golden hour for outdoor family sessions. This one was no different! The school was a beautiful location for their session, not just because of the crepe myrtle trees and golden hour glow, but also because of its meaning to the family. Like all members of the class of 2020, their oldest daughter’s senior year was vastly different than she ever imagined. Although COVID may have altered her senior year, these students showed such resilience in the face of all of it!
As we walked around campus, I loved listening to the proud senior share her memories of her time here. While we captured some senior photos in her cap and gown in the school courtyard, she pointed out where she would eat lunch with some of the special education students. It was so special to be able to look back on her high school years and celebrate her accomplishments!
The Sister Bond
My favorite part of this session was watching these two sisters interact.  I know it means the world to Heather and Jim to have been able to capture their girls’ loving sister dynamic. Their bond was evident as they shared inside jokes, secret handshakes—all the silly sister antics. I know they will miss each other so much as the oldest heads off to college in the fall.
One of my favorite things to do during family sessions is to try to sneak in a few photos of the parents together. Heather and Jim had just celebrated 20 years together, and I especially loved how I was able to capture the way that Jim makes Heather laugh. It’s the kind of marriage that I aspire to, and one that I want to model for my own children!
What do you want to remember about your family’s life right now?
Before our session, Heather told me that what she most wants to remember from this time in their lives was the togetherness. The next year will be very different as their oldest daughter heads to college. More than anything, she wanted to remember that they faced these big changes together and with anticipation of all the good things to come!
Jim and Heather—I know that this new season of life is a HUGE transition for your family. I hope that when you look back at these photos you will remember the togetherness of the last year and the way you handled all the big changes that came your way. Thank you so much for trusting me to capture these memories during your family session!
