You could tell from the feel of the morning that it was going to be a perfect, sunny September day in the south. The warm morning air held a breath of the coming fall, setting the perfect scene at the quaint and picturesque Mary’s at Falls Cottage—a venue suited as much for an intimate bridal shower brunch as it would be to play out a scene from a Jane Austen novel!
As the guests ascended the stairs and stepped out onto the bright balcony, they were greeted by cheerful white balloons — a fun nod to the “bubbles and brunch” theme — and a long, beautiful table full of handmade details put together by the bride’s sister and Maid of Honor, Suzanne.
While they eagerly awaited the arrival of the bride-to-be, the guests chatted with one another, sipped mimosas and peach Bellinis, and enjoyed the beautiful views of Greenville’s Falls Park below. Then, the moment they were waiting for arrived—the beaming guest of honor walked through the door, absolutely radiant with love, joy, and excitement! You could feel the love as she made her way around the room, embracing her loved ones and beaming with that special glow that every bride-to-be has.
When Grace emailed me to inquire about photographing her daughter Sara’s bridal shower, I was thrilled! Their family is like a second family to me. We attended the same church, her daughters attended school with my sisters and me, and her husband even officiated our wedding while Grace served as our day-of coordinator! It was such an honor to be able to capture such a special event for their family and be there as a “fly on the wall” to experience all the love and joy as the two families celebrated Sara and Jon’s upcoming wedding.
You know how you often hear people refer to the “dreaded in-laws?” It was so obvious that Jon’s family has accepted Sara with loving and open arms, and it was so wonderful to see the warm and easy dynamic between the two families. I couldn’t help but laugh at the banter between Sara and her future sister-in-law, Kristen, and the good-natured ribbing with her future mother-in-law (who Sara has dubbed “Sugar Cookie”), Annette.
I also could not help but SWOON over all the beautiful and personal details that Suzanne made for the event, including the word search with important facts from the bride- and groom-to-be’s relationship and the gift bags with a “taste of Charleston” to get everyone excited for the wedding festivities there!
Grace and Suzanne, thank you so much for inviting me to be part of this special day for your family! It was my privilege to be there to capture the moments for you so that you could be totally immersed in enjoying your guests and celebrating Sara’s beautiful day!
And Sara: I still remember high school bus rides and football games! It’s hard to believe we’re all grown up and married now. I wish you and Jon a lifetime of happiness and a home filled with warmth and joy!
