Classic Heirloom Newborn Session at Home | Columbia, SC

It’s no secret that my absolute favorite part of being a newborn photographer is becoming your family’s photographer for life! When Paige reached out about booking another in-home newborn session, I was thrilled! I met Paige and Brian when their first daughter was born, and I have loved being able to document so many memories for them. You can see their newborn session at their beautiful home in Lexington HERE, as well as their daughter’s first birthday session at the State House in downtown Columbia HERE!

A few weeks before her due date, Paige told me she was just so ready to meet their baby girl. She said, “Our lives have been so crazy and busy this whole last year, and I’m excited to have some time to slow down and savor this season.” The cold and rainy weather the day of their session was the perfect backdrop to lean into the cozy, snuggly feel she wanted for their photos!

Preparing a Toddler for Newborn Sibling Photos

It was important to Paige and Brian to have lots of sweet photos of both girls together. When there are going to be young kids at a session, especially with a newborn, I always tell parents to talk about the session often in the days leading up to it. The best chance for cooperative kiddos is when they know exactly what to expect (and what’s expected of them). Paige and Brian did a fantastic job preparing their older daughter ahead of time, because this sweet big sister was a total rock star during the entire session!

All that preparation ahead of time meant that I was able to get so many sweet shots of the family together, each parent with their girls, and the sisters together really quickly. Once we had checked all those photos off the list, she and Brian left for a daddy-daughter donut date, which gave me a chance to chat with Paige a little more and snag some sweet shots of just her and baby together in the nursery.

Curating a Calm and Feminine Nursery

Paige didn’t have a theme in mind when she was putting together a nursery for their second daughter. However, she knew for certain that she didn’t want any pink this time! Her goal was to create a space that felt calm and cozy, and she decided on a palette of blues and greens with gold accents. I especially loved the toile fabric she framed on the wall over the crib! The most special detail in the nursery was a print honoring Paige’s childhood best friend, who they lost very suddenly in December. Their daughter is named after her, and Paige said it is “truly the best legacy to live up to.”

Paige and Brian, thank you again for inviting me to document another season of life for your beautiful family! I can’t wait to see the sweet sisterly bond grow between your two girls in the years to come. Sending big hugs to you FOUR as you enjoy this new season together!
